Greetings from Dave Scheiber
Thanks for visiting ScheiberStories, the freelance writing business I started in late 2020, building on my many contacts from working in the market in numerous roles over the years. I’ve had the good fortune in my career to work for some of the country’s top-tier news organizations – including the Washington Post, where I got my start in journalism; the St. Petersburg Times; where I worked 31 years and won first place in one of journalism's most prestigious writing contests, the National Headliner Awards among many other honors; and Sports Illustrated, for which I wrote cover stories and features on an array of athletes.
I've also worked for some of Tampa Bay area’s most respected non-profits in the USF Foundation, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and the Pinellas Education Foundation. In addition, I've authored eight published books, some of which have received national recognition (including a Best Book of the Year honor from USA Today – click on the books tab above for more details).
Among my current regular clients are the University of South Florida Foundation, USF Communications and Marketing, and USF Health; Tampa General Hospital, BayCare, St. Petersburg College and Selby Gardens. At USF, I served throughout 2021 as interim speechwriter for then-interim USF President Rhea Law, and still write remarks on a regular basis for her as USF's eighth president, as well as writing many profiles on numerous topics for USF magazine and for the web. In my capacity as a contract writer, I handle many topics for the university, including a medical feature for USF Health in 2024 that in April 2025 won a bronze medal in the annual American Association of Medical Colleges. I handle a wide range of topics for Tampa General's various publications and for the TGH Foundation, am lead writer for the annual St. Anthony's Triathlon, a top race on the pro circuit, and create the content for Selby Gardens' quarterly magazine, Sanctuary.
